With the 2018 vintage of Anseillan, Château Lafite-Rothschild introduced it’s first new wine since the creation of Carruades de Lafite in the late 19th century. A blend of 48 percent Merlot, 39 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 13 percent Petit Verdot, this first release of Anseillan du Château Lafite Rothschild is the result of a project that began in 2014 and named after a 16th Centurt hamlet that is part of the estate. The village of Anseillan lies to the east of Lafite Rothschild, between the Château and the Gironde. This area presents a wide variety of terroirs which are the subject of much thought and research. Cooler and later because of their northern exposure, they are also more clayey than Lafite’s classic terroirs. This diversity is particularly interesting because it offers plots that are suited to all four of our main grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit, and Petit Verdot. This terroir and our teams’ work give Anseillan’s wine a unique style and excellent complexity.

The 2018 was launched in 2022 to a small number if merchants and private members clubs and I am pleased to have both the original vintage and the follow on 2019 vintage available to offer. As with all things Lafite the wines are made to last and will surely increase in value over time
Tasting note for 2018:
Fresh and bright with dried flowers, such as lavender and violets, with some black berries and currants. Medium body, fine tannins, with a nice and lightly bitter lemon and cedar aftertaste. Why wait? New third wine from Lafite from a special parcel just east of the chateau. Very drinkable. Drink or hold. 93/100 James Suckling

Tasting note for 2019:
Beautiful colour, very young. Rich, intense and expressive nose, very characteristic of the vintage with its ripe and fresh notes. On the palate, the wine continues along the same lines: its attack is dense while remaining lively, it is powerful while being light. Already melted, the tannins are present and stretch the palate with length. Optimum in 2024-2030
